چکیده

We present a piecewise linear switch which faithfully represents the e ect of certain protein concentrations on others, in a biological control mechanism for cell di erentiation known as Delta-Notch signaling. This switch is shown to be a good approximation to the Hill Equation and sigmoid switching curve, which are widely accepted models for biological switches. In addition, the switch allows us to use a mathematically tractable piecewise linear hybrid system model as an analysis tool for the dynamics of Delta-Notch signaling in a network of cells. In this paper, we give an overview of the biological system under study, we present the hybrid system model of the cell network, perform a convergence analysis, and validate with simulation results.

Emergence of Rules in Cell Society: Di erentiation, Hierarchy, and Stability

A dynamic model for cell di erentiation is studied, where cells with internal chemical reaction dynamics interact with each other and replicate. It leads to spontaneous di erentiation of cells and determination, as is discussed in the isologous diversi cation. Following features of the di erentiation are obtained: (1)Hierarchical di erentiation from a \stem" cell to other cell types, with the e...

Processing of Sonar Signals Using Neural Networks for Robust Target Differentiation

This study investigates the processing of sonar signals using neural networks for robust di erentiation of commonly encountered features in indoor environments. Di erentiation of such features is of interest for intelligent systems. Amplitude and time-ofight (TOF) patterns of sonar signals acquired from a real system are processed using neural networks. Compared to earlier approaches, the patte...

Emergence of Di erentiation Rules leading to Hierarchy and Diversity

An abstract model for cell di erentiation is studied, where cells with oscillatory internal dynamics interact through environment. The cells are found to di erentiate based on dynamical instability, as is discussed in the isologous diversi cation theory. These di erentiations obey speci c hierarchical rules which emerge from dynamics without sophisticated programs implemented in advance. The ra...
